Jimmy Simpson Foundation Set to Welcome Dr. Philip Wexler as New Director of Respiratory at Safehaven

The experienced doctor’s contributions will help the North Georgia long-term care facility continue to achieve its mission of providing residents with an exceptional level of care for years to come.

ROCK SPRING, Ga. (June 13, 2023) – In line with its commitment to provide exceptional care to individuals who have suffered a traumatic brain injury, the Jimmy Simpson Foundation will welcome Philip Wexler MD, FCCP to its Safehaven team as its Director of Respiratory on June 20th.

In his new role with the long-term care facility, Dr. Wexler, who will be relocating from Atlanta where he has served as the Director of the Pulmonary and Respiratory Department at the Shepherd Center since 2020, will provide continued pulmonary care for Safehaven's residents.

“When my mom, Carol, started the Jimmy Simpson Foundation and Safehaven 25 years ago, she set out to create a place where families could have peace of mind that their loved one was receiving the highest quality of care in a place that felt like home. Adding Dr. Wexler to our team is going to allow us to take our commitment to care to a whole new level which we believe is truly going to benefit our residents and their families. Dr. Wexler comes highly recommended and qualified; we know that our Safehaven family is going to welcome him with open arms,” Vickie Hodge, CEO of Safehaven and the Jimmy Simpson Foundation, said.

Prior to caring for patients at the Shepherd Center, Dr. Wexler spent a decade in Wyomissing, PA, where he worked as a Physician Partner with Berks Schuylkill Respiratory Specialists. During the course of his career, he also spent several years working at Boston University Medical Center.

A 2002 graduate of Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Dr. Wexler currently holds licenses in Pennsylvania, Georgia and Texas. He is a member of both the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology and the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, and Dr. Wexler is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians. He has received numerous honors and awards including the Reading Hospital Platinum Quality Award in 2019.

“The work Safehaven does for individuals with traumatic brain injuries is exceptional. They truly care for their residents, and I am honored to add my skills and expertise to their repertoire of care. To the Safehaven team, residents and families, I look forward to serving you for many years to come,” Dr. Wexler said.

Dr. Wexler and his wife, Teresa, have been married for 17 years and have four children. When he's not working, you can find Dr. Wexler lounging at a pool, traveling or attending one of the many activities that his children are involved with.

ABOUT JIMMY SIMPSON FOUNDATION - ROCK SPRING, GA

The Jimmy Simpson Foundation is dedicated to providing the best quality care for the brain injury community. It was founded as a 501c3 organization by Carol Simpson after her husband, Jimmy, suffered an anoxic brain injury as a result from a fall out of a hospital bed after surgery. While searching for long term placement for Jimmy, it was difficult to find an environment that fostered individuality as well as provided a safe home environment. As with many non-profit organizations, the family saw a need within the brain injury community and stepped up to meet that need.
